CM United have interviewed CM5 designer Anthony Kyne. If you haven't read it yet, you can do so here: CM United

Well, Troy's article at CM Addicted explains quite a lot, and so do these posts, taken from this thread by technical designer Anthony Kyne:

The game was finished to a releasable standard in November but when we sat down to play it we just wern't happy enough with it. Basically it was a 7 out of 10 game. So we had a few meetings and said if we improve this, this and this we can really improve the game by a huge amount. So we put this to Eidos and they agreed it's better to have a game that is a contender than a nearly ran. So they've given us some more time to improve upon some areas.

The areas we're looking at mainly are the News & Media stuff and the Player Personality stuff, the problem was that although the game was finished we didn't feel that the game created the feeling of the world around you was actually doing something due to the lack of news being reported on it, it just flet a little flat. That's really the major stuff we're improving. But while we've got the time we've decided that we'll make some improvements to the Scouting and Manger AI, and the Match Engine is always a work in progress and will be til CM99 as you can always improve the way the game play out.

So as I've said in a few posts around the forum we've been exreamly lucky that Eidos are interested in making a great game rather than just getting something on the shelves for the Christmas Market. Take it from a man who has been forced into releasing unfinished games in the past, this delay is a good thing for the customer and refreshing that Eidos take that view.

It's been a while!

Finally another update on my blog, I can only blame my own lazyness for the lack of updates.

We've seen some exciting articles regarding Championship Manager 5. About a month ago, the first article by Steve Screech about the Match Engine was published. It appears you'll really have to anticipate on what's happening on the pitch, and to what the AI manager does. Good stuff.

A week later, tactics designer Anthony Kyne wrote an indepth article regarding tactics.

The first thing I set about doing was to give the user an almost infinite amount of positions to place their players in on the chalkboard. The reason for this is that when playing these types of games you’ll always notice small things that need a tweak here or need a tweak there which you want to be able to have an effect over.

The above is an excerpt from the article, it all sounds very exciting.

The most recent update was by Luke Didd, about training, a part of the game that was never really any good in previous incarnations of CM, while it actually is one of the most important parts of football. Now, with the help of Mervyn Day, it all seems to be much better, as you can go as far into it as you want. Top stuff.

It would be impossible to give an overall value to show how good a player is. Each player is different and depending on how you instruct your players to play they will play differently. This then make's it more confusing for the user to decide who to pick. Even though we do have a huge number of stats for each player in the game my opinion is that you can only really see how good a player is by looking at him in the match. The stats are only really a guide line on the players to try and form your tactics around them, this is also true about the stats that are given after the match, these only show what the player has done on the ball, which means you could be undervaluing a player who doesn't get a huge amount of ball.
For example I had a player in my Gravesend team that when looking at his after match stats looked like he'd done very little and if I was watching the match in commentary mode I would have dropped him because he looked lazy and unwilling to compete, but because I'd watched the match I new this wasn't true he was running all over the place pulling defenders all over the place rushing them into making mistakes and in general just causeing the opposition trouble, because of this his strike partner got great stats after the game but as a whole was a lot less effective.
Just my opinion, on the one stat thing.

This sound like an exiting part of the match engine, the o so important, working, mainly invisible players, appear to have a big impact in the matches.

FC Utrecht trash Feyenoord

On Sunday FC Utrecht concluded a fantastic week in a grand style. In Rotterdam leader Feyenoord was defeated with as much as 3-0.

The formidable achievement in Rotterdam was once more a confirmation of the development which Foeke Booy's team is making with great leaps this season. Three days after having put aside the Swedish Djurgårdens IF simply but convincingly, FC Utrecht also managed to convincingly defeat the leader of the premier division.

With the 3-0 win a club record was again smashed to smithereens. In the previous 34 encounters in the football competition FC Utrecht left Rotterdam with three point twice before, but never before was the margin of three goals.

We are on a roll

[/B]Championship Manager 5[/B]'s release is getting closer, and to be honest, I can't wait. We don't have much information about the game, but the things that we know, are quite positive.

Another exiting new development is CM Online. If you haven't heard anything about it yet, be sure to check it out and sign up for the mailinglist. You'll get more information, and you are in for beta testing this exiting new feature.

Some of you might know that I was co-admin at www.assistantmanager.net , one of the top CM5 fansites, but unfortunately it's gone now. We can not tell you yet how long it will take before it is back up, but we're trying our best, I can assure you. In the mean time, we are still creating new contact, so that we can come back stronger than ever.

Now, on the personal side of things. I'll start my job hunting quest on monday, not really looking forward to it, but hey, I've got to pay rent, bills, food, friday night pubbing etc. If I find a job, I'll let you know. For the moment, you'll probably see me hanging around the forum a lot.

I'm nearing the end of my holiday in the UK, I had a great time. I have to go back to Holland tomorrow .

Why is public transport outside of London that bad? Outside of London, it has been nothing but delays, replacement bus services( ) and buses not showing up at all.

I'm glad they have the underground in London, easiest way to travel. They should ban some of the musicians standing there though, I wonder if these people realise that they really are crap.

So what have I done for the past week in England you might wander(probably not). Well I haven't done much really. Cambridge is a great place, I have been there before, it's always nice to go back.

London's good too, despite the amount of Arsenal fans you see walking around. I have nothing against Arsenal, or it fans, but someone should beat them as soon as possible, to bring them back down to earth and wipe that grins of their faces.

FC Utrecht celebrate

Due to lack of interest, my Hong Kong - Happy Valley game has been abandoned. As it turns out, Happy Valley is the top club in Hong Kong, and almost every game turned out to be a walk over due to my Nigerian striker. I do have the intention to try Asia again, but I'll be a bit more careful about who I pick the next time I load up a game.

In the light of the AM august challenge, I have started a new game managing Rotherham United, and I'm sitting in 11th place after 4 matches, I'm already out of the League cup. Much more enjoyable than a random Real Madrid/AC Milan/Insert any european top club here game, I can tell you.

In the real footballing world, my team, FC Utrecht, have won the 3rd trohy in 3 seasons time, and the 4th in our entire history. After the cup wins of 1986, 2003 and 2004 we now have won the dutch super cup, in an historical 2-4 win over Dutch Champions Ajax. We were 2-1 down till the 86th minute, after which new signed Hans Somers(2x) and another new signing Douglas brought us the super cup, needless to say, we had a great party afterwards.

After a week of internet connection trouble, it's all sorted now. My internet connection was very slow or not working at all. If I unplugged the modem for 5 minutes, it was fine again for 15 minutes, then it went incredibly slow again, webpages took over 2 minutes to load, that's not ideal when browsing a forum, I'm sure you all can imagine...

After a few days of arguing with my ISP(replace that cable, stand on your head, and sing the national anthem while turning on your computer and you will be fine....:rolleyes they sent someone down here to check it out, he replaced my modem, and it's superb again.
